| General Requirements for Pressure-Retaining Systems and Components in CANDU Nuclear Power Plants | ||
| Clause 7.9.1.3 states that the pressure boundary portion of instruments in Class 1, 1C, 2, 2C, 3, 3C or 4 systems or components having an inlet of NPS ¾ or smaller shall be registered as a Category F fitting in accordance with the requirements of CSA B51. This clause also states that the pressure boundary design of the instrument shall be rated for the design conditions of the system. Clause 14.3.1 states that a replacement item may be purchased to the original design specification or to a different specification, provided the design requirements for the original item are met. Clause 14.3.2 states that the classification of the replacement item shall be the same or higher class than that required by the original design specification. In existing nuclear class systems there are instances where instruments were designed, registered and supplied to the code class of the system. These requirements were included in the specifications for these instruments. ASME Section III excludes instruments from its scope and sourcing nuclear class instruments can be difficult. Recognizing this, clause 7.9.1.3 was added to CSA N285.0. |
