2005 NRC National Construction Codes, Published by the National Research Council of Canada, are Now Available!
Since their publication in 1995, all three NRC National Construction Codes have undergone extensive reviews and changes that now make the 2005 editions clearer, easier to apply to renovation and more accommodating to technological innovation.
Some of the new features are:
- New information, namely the objectives and functional statements, designed to improve clarity and consistency in the application of the codes' requirements
- A new organizational layout. Each Code comprises three divisions: Divisions A, B and C. Click on the individual product links below for more detail.

NRC National Building Code of Canada 2005
The National Building Code sets out technical provisions for the design and construction of new buildings. It also applies to the alteration, change of use and demolition of existing buildings.
The 2005 version of the Code incorporates over 800 technical changes, and is:
- clearer
- easier to apply to existing buildings
- more accommodating to innovation
NRC National Fire Code of Canada 2005
Over 300 technical changes have been incorporated in this new edition. The National Fire Code sets out the technical provisions regulating:
- activities related to the construction, use or demolition of buildings and facilities
- the condition of specific elements of buildings and facilities
- the design or construction of specific elements of facilities related to certain hazards
- protection measures for the current or intended use of buildings
The 2005 National Fire Code complements the 2005 National Building Code, and both must be considered when constructing, renovating or maintaining buildings.
NRC National Plumbing Code of Canada 2005
Over 200 technical changes have been incorporated in this new edition.
The National Plumbing Code:
- applies to the extension, alteration, renewal and repair of existing plumbing systems, and
- sets out technical provisions for the design and installation of new plumbing systems
The 2005 National Plumbing Code is a must-have for anyone who designs or installs plumbing systems.
