Summary

In September 1927, CSA Group published the first edition of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I "...to establish safety standards for the safe installation of electrical equipment," and to aid in the prevention of fire and shock hazards. Developed as a model code that could be adopted by jurisdictions through legislation, the CE Code was quickly adopted as the basis for electrical inspection by most provinces.

Today the Canadian Electrical Code is the de facto standard for safe electrical installation practices, and a key lynch pin of the electrical safety system in Canada. It is adopted in full, or with specific regional amendments, in every province and territory.

The 2012 Canadian Electrical Code is the 22nd edition of this important document. It contains over 180 updates and revisions - the most comprehensive set of changes ever. New and extensively updated sections apply to emerging technology, renewable energy sources including solar & wind, new requirements for electric vehicles, and more.
