We are pleased to announce that for the third consecutive year, the CSA Group Annual Conference and Committee Week is being organized in accordance with CSA Z2010-10 Requirements and Guidance For Organizers of Sustainable Events, an event sustainability management standard launched in December of 2010.
What this means is that we are taking conscious steps to integrate consideration of the environmental, social, and economic impacts of our decisions and activities into the event planning and management process. Through doing so, we are striving to minimize negative impacts, enhance positive benefits and create positive legacies over the long term.
Overall our efforts are focused on several key areas including:
- Minimizing resource consumption;
- Effectively managing waste;
- Promoting energy efficiency and conservation;
- Engaging stakeholders in contributing to event sustainability;
- Supporting markets for socially and environmentally responsible goods and services; and
- Mitigating the impact of GHG emissions generated due to operations.
We are excited to be working the Calgary Telus Convention Centre and the Calgary Marriott Hotel to achieve our event sustainability objectives. Both properties have third party certified sustainability management policies and practices in place, which will facilitate implementation of CSA Group event sustainability initiatives.
In addition, we are thrilled to be working with Bullfrog Power, Canada's leading green energy provider, to power the venue with 100% clean, renewable electricity. This means that Bullfrog Power will inject green power onto the Alberta electricity grid to match the amount of electricity used by this event. Bullfrog's green power is sourced exclusively from wind power producers.
You too can play a role in enhancing the sustainability of the event! Below is a list of suggested actions that you can take to while planning your trip to Calgary:
